Beautiful Feet – short term mission opportunities

Romans 10: 14 – 15

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (ESV)

After you leave school or university, you’ll probably never have such long holidays again. Want to make the most of your time off and serve God? Then why not consider a short-term mission opportunity? There really is so much on offer – some near, others far; some pricey, others not so expensive – but there is definitely something for everyone!  So why not get on your feet and consider how you might use your gifts and skills to glorify God and take His good news to all the nations?

One of the best ways to find out all that’s on offer is to go to GoFest, a huge mission fair where loads of organisations will be represented and you can get a better flavour of where you might be best used. It runs from 19 – 21 June in Bulstrode, Bucks and there may well be a group going from Knighton, so get in touch with the Church Office if you want to know who else is going.

This year, thousands of international students will be heading to cities such as Bournemouth, Oxford and Cambridge to study English and sample more of British culture. As Christians we have a great opportunity to share the love of Christ with the nations as God brings them to our doorstep. Friends International runs summer outreaches in several UK cities and is a brilliant way to offer international students friendship, English language practice and the chance to talk about Jesus Christ.

Every summer, thousands of families drive to the British coast to get a break from a hectic life at home. With time on their hands and in the relaxed setting of a holiday they are willing to sit and talk about the important issues of life, of God and about Jesus Christ. Beach Missions go to places where people are to share the good news of Jesus. There are over 90 destinations in the UK to choose from this year so if you like the sea, sunshine and sharing the gospel, then this might be just the thing for you.

If you feel God is calling you further afield, then you are spoilt for choice. WEC run Team Treks to Southeast Asia and Mexico. UFM have trips to South Africa, Greece, Brazil and the Ivory Coast. SIM work in Asia, Africa and South America and have 2 – 4 week opportunities which will open your eyes and change your hearts for lost people around the world. This year Interserve have an ‘On Track’ mission team going to Nepal, working with needy people affected by people trafficking and forced labour.

Have a heart for the Arab world? Then check out Arab World Ministries/ Pioneers Edge Teams to places in the Arabian Peninsula and Spain.

Or maybe Africa is where it’s all about. How about serving for one month among one of Africa’s least-reached people groups, ministering alongside one of AIM’s Synergy Africa outreach teams?

Seriously considering gospel ministry at some point in the future? Then you might like to do a part-time summer school at Cornhill. It’s an opportunity to work through some of the important principles of handling the Bible faithfully with the aim of teaching Christ with integrity.

If you’d like more information, or would like to chat and pray with a church leader about where God might be leading you this summer, then please e-mail the Church Office. We’d love to help you discover more about God’s mission and the part that you can play in it. Find out what God can do when you take up the challenge to share His love cross-culturally.
